Explaining the "Accelerated Reader" Programme

27th Sep 2018

In Bunscoil Bheanna Boirche our Rang 4, 5, 6 & 7 pupils avail of the Accelerated Reader Programme. This is a computerized programme that tests reading comprehension. Students select books on their reading level, read independently, and take an independent comprehension test on the computer. Each book is worth a certain number of points based on its length and reading level. Students get a percentage of these points based on how many of the test questions they get right. The programme tracks their progress over the course of the school year.

Your child’s Reading level will be tested 5 times throughout the year, and the new Reading level will be sent home so that you are aware of your child’s progress. We have an increasing number of books available at all levels within the school. We would also like to thank CAIRDE, who purchased £1000 worth of books last year to help extend the A.R. selection within the school for our pupils. Libraries NI are also familiar with the A.R. programme, so your child can go to the local library and ask to be directed to the books on their level giving them even more choice of what to read.

If you have any questions or just want to know more please feel free to ask your class teacher who will be happy to help.
