Turas Gaeltachta

24th May 2019

Bhí turas Gaeltachta den chéad scoth ag daltaí Rang 6/7 an tseachtain seo. Ó d’imigh muid maidin Chéadaoin go dtí gur phill muid tráthnóna Aoine, níor stop ár ndaltaí ag labhairt i nGaeilge bhinn bhlasta. Agus níor stop an spórt ná an spraoi ach oiread. Bhí tráth na gceist againn oíche Chéadaoin i Rann na Feirste agus bhí an-chraic go deo againn. Ansin, maidin Déardaoin, chaith muid seal ag súgradh ar an trá sula ndeachaigh muid isteach go hOileán Ghabhla ar an bhád farantóireachta. Shiúil muid thart ar an oileán agus d’fhoghlaim muid fá stair an oileáin. Bhí sé thar barr! Chuaigh muid go hIonad Cois Locha tráthnóna, áit a bhfuair muid amach giota beag fán tseanobair fhíodóireachta a rinneadh ann san am a chuaigh thart. Ansin chuaigh muid amach ar Loch Dhún Lúiche faoi scáth na hEargaile. San oíche, bhuail muid isteach sa Chrannóg is bhí oíche airneáil ar dóigh againn le muintir óg Ghaoth Dobhair. Ceol craic agus cuideachta den scoth!

Bhí páistí s’againne thar barr ar fad agus moladh go hard na spéire iad mar gheall ar a gcuid Gaeilge agus cé chomh múinte agus maith is a bhí siad le linn an turais. Mar mhúinteoir, bhí sé ina phribhléid mhór dom an scaifte páistí iontacha seo a ghlacadh go Tír Chonaill ar an turas seo.

Our Rang 6/7 pupils had a fantastic Gaeltacht trip this week. From the moment we left on Wednesday morning until we returned on Friday afternoon, our pupils didn’t stop speaking Irish. And they had non-stop craic and fun all the while too. We had a quiz on Wednesday night in Rann na Feirste which was great craic. Then on Thursday morning, we spent a while playing on the beach before we went to Oileán Ghabhla on the ferry. We were guided around the island and we learnt lots about the history of Gabhla. It was great! We went to Ionad Cois Locha that afternoon where we learned a bit about the old weaving industry of Dún Lúiche. Then we went out for another boat trip around the loch at the foot of the beautiful Sliabh Eargail. That night, we visited the Crannóg and sang some songs and played some music with young people from Gaoth Dobhair. Great music and great company!

Our children were fantastic and they were highly praised everywhere we went for their great Irish and their excellent behaviour and manners. As their teacher, I must say it was a great privilege to bring this fantastic group of children to Donegal for a couple of days. Maith sibh a pháistí.
